Fleet telematics: how much can your fleet save?
Automatically collecting the mileage and driving data of each vehicle, with no box, cuts three cost lines: fuel and electricity, claims, and contract penalties. This simulator estimates the possible annual savings, for your fleet and per vehicle.

Understanding the calculation
Eco-driving saves 3 to 7 % of fuel on a combustion fleet when drivers get feedback on their driving. The reference meta-analysis (Sanguinetti et al., 2020, 17 studies) measures 6.6 % on average, 7 % for professional drivers and 8 % when feedback comes with rewards. Over a year in real conditions, the effect falls back to 3 to 5 % if nobody follows up on the scores (Energy Saving Trust, European ecoDriver project). The simulator uses 4 % as the cautious case and 6 % as the realistic case.
Yes, and in town the gain is much bigger than with a combustion car. In a study of more than 500 trials published in 2025, eco-driving cut consumption by 30 % in town for an electric vehicle, compared with 11 % for a combustion vehicle (Miqdady et al.). An electric car calls for a new way of driving: anticipating so that regenerative braking recharges the battery, and easing off on the motorway, where consumption rises quickly with speed. Over four years of real measurements, driving style changes an EV's consumption by up to 16 % (Al-Wreikat et al., 2021). The simulator uses 8 % as the cautious case and 12 % as the realistic case.
Yes: regular feedback on driving reduces risky behaviour, and therefore claims. A randomised trial published in 2026 with 1,449 drivers measured 11 to 13 % less speeding and 16 to 25 % fewer harsh braking and acceleration events (Ebert et al., Accident Analysis & Prevention). In fleets fitted with data recorders, accidents fell by 15 to 30 % (TRL, 2015). The result depends on how involved the fleet manager is: the simulator uses 10 % as the cautious case and 15 % as the realistic case.
The rate per excess kilometre is set in your lease contract and varies by leasing company and vehicle, more so for premium vehicles. In the UK, 12 to 17 % of returned cars pay an excess mileage charge, £586 on average (FN50 survey 2024). Spotting the drift during the contract lets you reassign the vehicle or renegotiate the mileage before it is returned.
No. Voltaback retrieves the data directly from the connected vehicle, with no box or installation. Almost all recent vehicles are compatible, combustion vehicles included. Vehicles built before 2020 can be harder to connect depending on their equipment.
Send us the list of your vehicles (make, model, year): we test the compatibility of each one, free of charge, before any commitment. You receive the list of compatible vehicles and the savings recalculated for those vehicles only. Almost all recent vehicles are compatible, combustion vehicles included; some vehicles built before 2020 may not be, depending on their equipment. Request a compatibility test.
No. The company never receives its drivers' geolocation. It sees mileage, consumption, driving scores and alerts. Voltaback is ISO 27001 certified and hosts data in the European Union.
Methodology and sources
The simulator adds up four annual savings: eco-driving (fuel and electricity), avoided material damage claims, contract and maintenance losses avoided thanks to alerts, and time saved on mileage reporting. End-of-contract penalties are spread over the contract term. The hourly cost of an FTE is its annual cost divided by the number of hours worked per year.
