How does it work?

Why real cost
Cheaper than a charger. Fairer than a flat rate.
Faster and more reliable than any alternative.

No hardware, no extra cost
No charger, no installation, no maintenance. Voltaback works without hardware and reimburses actual consumption at the driver's own tariff, off-peak rates included.

Real cost or HMRC rate, free of tax and NIC
For a company car, salary sacrifice included, you can reimburse 100% of the home electricity, private use included, with no tax and no NIC (s.239 ITEPA 2003). Real cost of each driver's tariff, or the HMRC Advisory Electricity Rate per mile: Voltaback measures what each method needs.

Live from today
No visits to your drivers' homes. Up and running from day one, whatever the size of your fleet, 2 minutes per driver.

Every charge identified, no room for fraud
Each charge is linked to a vehicle and documented (date, duration, kWh, amount). A clear record for you and your drivers.

SECURITY & COMPLIANCE

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
For a company car, salary sacrifice included, the employer can reimburse 100% of the electricity used to charge it at home, private use included, with no tax and no NIC: HMRC does not apply a car fuel benefit to electricity (s.239 ITEPA 2003). Voltaback measures each home charge, values it at the driver's own tariff, charging losses included, and produces a monthly record per car. No hardware is needed.
Yes: the HMRC Advisory Electricity Rate, 7p per mile when the car is charged at home and 15p in public (rates since 1 September 2026, reviewed every quarter). It is paid per business mile, so you need business miles and the charging location; Voltaback measures both from the car. A fixed rate does not match every tariff: a driver paying around 7p/kWh off-peak gains, one paying the price cap rate loses. Real-cost reimbursement removes that gap and covers private use too.
No. Voltaback is 100% software: it works on a standard 3-pin plug as well as an existing wallbox, with or without a smart meter, in a house or a block of flats.
Each charge is identified by vehicle and documented (date, duration, kWh, amount). That rules out fraud and gives you the reasonable evidence HMRC expects, separating the car's charging from the rest of the household's consumption.
Up and running from day one: about 2 minutes of setup per driver.
